The setting up of the RPX service can take can little as one day. Only things that you will need to decide and develop for your site are the look and design of the OpenID login widget and your website "End-point", or the page where your user lands after successful login.

We will guide you through all this and provide you with all the documentation and service support you will need, plus a SLA.

How it works

The JanRain RPX is an API that operates from the cloud. It connects to your web server just by using HTTPS and XML / JSON and requires no technical integration what so ever. Once plugged-in, you can immediately start to accept OpenID logins and registrations from millions of users. In case your users already have accounts in your site, JanRain RPX enables linking of the primary accounts with the user OpenID's.

Here are just some of the benefits

Simple and Secure

The JanRain RPX provides a simple interface to the complex, changing problem of interfacing with Open Authentication and Data providers. If your website can make HTTPS calls and can parse either XML or JSON, then it can use RPX. You can get RPX up and running in under a day.

The RPX service hides the complexity of security, protocol and data flow designs, settings and best practices as the RPX handles all of this for you and delivers a simple payload in either JSON or XML.

Best of breed feature set

You might consider that implementing OpenID using open source libraries and technical specifications is a lot of work. Consider also implementing OpenID elements and technologies like SREG, AX, OAUTH, DA, PAPE and XRI. It is possible to stitch this all together all yourself, but what about next new specification, modification or element? By the time you are finished implementing the first release, something new is likely to be out there already. Just concentrate on your business and get all the best and new features automatically with RPX, and let us do the hard stuff.

Best interoperability possible

With JanRain RPX service, you get the best possible interoperability in the market. JanRain leverages it's institutional knowledge and deep relationships with large providers to always provide the best open authentication service for your website.

Operation Piece of mind

The JanRain RPX is like a router that you plug into and then forget. It always works. We take care of the hard stuff: security, monitoring, upgrading, uptime and scaling.

New RPX Features and Services

OpenID and PAPE

OpenID supports the semantics of NIST authentication assurance levels via PAPE -- OpenID Provider Authentication Policy Extension 1.0. PAPE provides a mechanism for an OpenID authenticati on to return to the relying party with the strength of the authentication performed by the OpenID IDP declared in terms of NIST authentication levels (1-4).

For example, providing an OpenID managed by JanRain's "myOpenID.com", configured with JanRain's "Call VerifID" service, which invokes a cell phone call-based authentication process for validating user credentials, results in successful authentications that come back to the relying party specifying a "Level 2" authentication process was performed, employing a multi-factor token verification process.

JanRain has deployed a relying party sit e that provides tests and UI controls for accessing interoperable access to IDPs that provide authentication assertions for validated identities according to the NIST classifications. The servers at interop.janrain.com provide a simple set of inputs for providing an identifier to be authenticated, and will process those i dentifiers with the connected IDPs and return the results along with an extended set of reporting information about the a uthentication.

RPX and "Google Apps for Domains" OpenID

The JanRain RPX service is dedicated to help new visitors register and returning members login to your website quickly and easily. With recent updates from Google , the RPX services are now extended beyond the consumer web to offer easy sign-in to the millions of businesses, schools, and other organizations using Google Apps For Domains. Google now lets each of its customers enable OpenID provider support for their domain, which then makes it possible for members to sign-in to OpenID enabled websites using an OpenID from their own domain.

For example, when using Apps for Domains services at a company using their own branded OpenID with JanRain OPX, you can now simply type "company.com" to sign-in to OpenID enabled websites. Typing our domain into the dialog box triggers the standard OpenID authentication process. The user is redirected to the appropriate Google Apps Domain to authenticate. Upon authentication on the first visit, a user will complete the transaction with Google by authorizing access to account information.

Thanks to this new support, million of companies will now be OpenID-enabled. In addition all RPX customers are now able to accept sign-ins from anyone using Apps for Domains and have a great user experience. As an addition, using apps for domains and OpenID, not only makes login safer and simple, but you can verify membership of a group or organization at the time of login for access control purposes. For example, it's easy to only let people with OpenIDs from yourcompay.com login to your site. You can just create a button, point it at the RPX REST API, and then verify the domain of the user's identifier after authentication.
